Day 1: Akagera National Park destination

After a hefty breakfast/pick up at Kigali airport and drive to Akagera National Park. Akagera N/Park is lying in the far Eastern Province of Rwanda 2.5 hours drive from Kigali capital. It is a 1122sq.km protected area, inhabiting all the big five game; antelopes, the Maasai giraffes, over 500 bird species, warthogs, and more. You will relax for the whole evening.

Driving time: 2.5 hours from Kigali

Day 2: Full-day wildlife safari Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park offers the best of guided big game safaris. Enjoy an early morning game drive in a 4×4 tourist car, and view a diversity of wildlife including buffaloes, lions, buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, rhinos, birds, warthogs, and many others. Return to the lodge before noon and enjoy lunch at leisure, in the evening, go experience Lake Ihema on a boat cruise for 2-3 hours. View hundreds of hippo schools swimming, basking crocodiles, aquatic birds, and others.

Day 3: Akagera-Nyungwe Forest N/Park

Leave the Eastern Province of Rwanda, and drive to the Southern side to visit Nyungwe Forest National Park. Unlike Akagera N/Park, Nyungwe is a primate destination, offering excellent chimpanzee trekking and canopy walking. 13 species of primates call Nyungwe a home, including 500 chimpanzees and others such as l’hoest monkeys, red colobus monkeys.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking, canopy walk at Nyungwe

Canopy walking and chimpanzee tracking will be the two active experiences to expect to take part in while at Nyungwe Forest National Park. In the morning, start with the chimpanzee tracking for 2-4 hours including one hour to enjoy a close encounter. After, walk back to have lunch and later, head out for a canopy walk in the afternoon for 2 hours.

Day 5: Nyungwe to Volcanoes National Park, Ruhengeri

Wake up early for breakfast, and after, check out of the lodge in Nyungwe. After, drive to Ruhengeri to tour Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy lunch that the lodge packed for you and en route, have a breathtaking view of the scenic Lake Kivu.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking, cultural tour at Iby’Iwacu village

After breakfast and briefing, start your adventure into the wild to see mountain gorillas in Rwanda. This will be long, taking about 2-6 hours and 12 habituated families of these large apes are all open for visiting. A magical hour with them is included in the 2-6 hours of your trek. Later, walk back and you will be given a gorilla trekking certificate and then continue to the lodge. In the evening, there will be a cultural encounter at Iby’Iwacu village.

Day 7: Departure
