All hiking activities to the Margherita summits (5109m) on Mount Stanley, Rwenzori Mountain ranges have been reopened. In addition to the reopening, safety measures have been improved to ensure safety of all trekkers on Rwenzori Mountain trekking adventure.

Hiking Itinerary -Rwenzori Mountain Trekking to Margherita Re-opened
Day one –transfer from Kampala to Kasese
This involves pick up and transfer to Kasese with en-route stopover expected to be made at the Equator crossing or Mpambire Drum Makers. After, drive via the beautiful Mbarara city and proceed to Kasese for overnight stay in the comfortable hotel facility; Rwenzori International Hotel/Margherita Hotel
Day two – Kasese to Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut
Today, you embark on a journey to Nyakalengija where you will be briefed before the start of your trek. The trek then starts at elevation 1646 meters. Enjoy the trek via the Bakonjo homesteads then elephant grassland and later get to the park boundary which is approximately 40 minutes. Take the trail along the Mubuku River crossing and head off to the Makoma River about 2 hours.
Once you have crossed the river, expect to conquer the steep slopes to the bracken fern slopes and podocarpus forest till you get to Nyabitaba Hut at 2652 meters. Today, expect to spend at least 5-6 hours.
Day three – Head to John Matte Uganda
Depart from Nyabitaba Hut for John Matte Hut (3414m). You will proceed northwards on steep slope to Kurf Shafer Bridge. Have a night stay at Nyamileju or continue through the dominated area with the giant leather, groundsel and lobelia. Those proceeding to the John Matter, expect to have dinner and overnight stay at the hut.
Day four – John Matte to Bujuku
Depart from John Matte to Bujuku crossing the Bujuku River. Today’s trek will involve conquering 3962 meter elevation and the trail allows you explore the Bigo, then settle at Bigo hut. At this point, you can enjoy views of the nearby peaks including Mount Speke and retire for the night at Bujuku Hut.
Day five –To Elena & Kitandara
Leave early for Elena taking the newer trails. En-route, enjoy the stunning moss-draped groundsel gully as you head to the Scott Eliot Pass (4372m). From the Gully, proceed to Elena Hut and this marks the base camp for Margherita.
Day six – Kitandara Hut
Head off on descent walk to Kitandara lakes below and expect to enjoy the scenic views of the Craters. Today, you will settle at the Kitandara hut where you can easily continue to Mount Baker peak/Luigi di Savoia as well as Vittorio Sella peaks.
Day seven –Guy Yeoman Hut
Begin your journey early to conquer the steep slopes as you head via the alpine mossy glades. It is a challenging day and also expect to settle at Guy Yeomen hut. Overall, you will have 6 hours trekking but with reward of breathtaking mountain landscapes and rivers.
Day eight –Guy Yeomen to Nyakalengija then back to the hotel
Get up early and start your journey on one of the challenging hikes. Navigate via the rivers as you slope back to Nyakalengija offices. From Nyakalengija, proceed to the hotel in Kasese for a night stay.
