The key highlight is gorilla trekking in any of the 4 sectors in Bwindi – Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo or Rushaga.Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a spectacular rainforest park, with borders extending to cover 331 sq.km and it was gazetted in 1991 primarily to host mountain gorillas.

In the lush Bwindi Impenetrable Forest alone, there are 459 mountain gorillas and about 23 habituated gorilla groups. Besides, several other wildlife species share the same habitat with Bwindi Mountain gorillas, including chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, baboons, a total of 360 bird species.

Day 1: Destination to visit -Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park destination: After breakfast, day one of your short 4 days Uganda double gorilla trekking safari involves transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. A journey to Bwindi from Entebbe or Kampala in a 4×4 vehicle takes 8-9 hours, navigating via Masaka-Mbarara to Kabale.

A road trip to Bwindi today includes two stopovers – first at the Equator crossing for you to take photos and the second stopover will be at the Igongo cultural center for lunch, plus visit to Museum.

At the Equator crossing if time allows, water experiment can be performed for you to determine the two poles- the Northern & Southern hemispheres.

From Kayabwe (Uganda Equator crossing), proceed to Igongo for a lunch break. After lunch, continue to the Southwestern part of Uganda while enjoying the breathtaking view of hillside. Check in the lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park upon arrival and have the long evening relaxing.

Day 2: 1st Trekking Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi & Batwa cultural experience

After breakfast, briefing will be done at the park offices and this is after you have registered or cleared with park reception desk. Today, you will be visiting the first gorilla family, this being a double gorilla trekking safari.

The actual trek begins at 8:00 a.m and you will be led by Bwindi National Park guide, experienced with gorilla trekking. You will take 2-6 hours moving in the scenic Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, undulating mountainous landscape till you find your gorilla group. When you come across gorillas it is a must that you will have one hour of magical encounter, photo taking, etc.

After you have interacted with a group of mountain gorillas, expect to return and first, get your gorilla trekking certificate from the park offices and then proceed to the lodge to have lunch.

After lunch break, in the evening, expect to connect to the Batwa community. Today’s evening mainly focuses on you enjoying a cultural tour. This includes getting to know how the Batwa lived peacefully with mountain gorillas and other wildlife in the jungles. Relaxation, dinner and overnight back at the lodge pre-booked for you.

Day 3: 2nd Gorilla trekking expedition

Day two of visiting mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park starts with breakfast and briefing about gorilla trekking rules. The park official will assign the same gorilla group or different one, but we recommend that you visit the different family.

After the second mountain gorilla trekking adventure, there will be an option of completely remain at the lodge to chill or transfer to Lake Bunyonyi to relax or swim at Lake Bunyonyi.

Note: Consider packing right for your double gorilla trekking holiday. Have a pack of snacks, bottled water, a tin of an insect repellent, long-sleeved shirt, a rain jacket, a safari hat, first aid kit, a valid gorilla permit, a pair of trousers, waterproof hiking boots, daypack, sunscreen, and others.

Day 4: Departure from Bwindi for Entebbe or Kampala

Breakfast served early, after, meet the driver guide to be transferred to Entebbe or Kampala. En-route, packed lunch will be enjoyed while en-route, and either make a stopover once again at Equator or this time, go to Mpambire Drum Makers to learn how drums are made locally. Today marks the end of 4 days Uganda gorilla trekking.
